I have a 8 node cluster with Hyper-V, which will be 10 nodes when it's finally done.
Recently I've been try to add nodes and though that went fine, after about a week I could not open the Failover Cluster Manager anymore.
After some checking I found out that the latest added node was giving problems.

VM's on the node still run and function properly, but most Powershell commands result in a "The requested object does not exist. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010114)".

I can suspend the node with Suspend-ClusterNode, but draining roles was unsuccesful in one case.
In the other there were no VM's on the node so suspending went fine.

What I did find out was that when I tried to ping the node from another, proper functioning node, it took a while before the pinging started. It felt like the interface had to come back online on the problem node.
After that, I could add the cluster to the Failover Cluster Manager. However, Powershell commands still give a 0x80010114 error or a CIM error for when I use Get-NetAdapter.

A reboot resolves the problem, but only for about a week.

I know there is a topic with the same title already, but the wbemtest en rollup update "answer" is totally unclear to me why I should change something with wbemtest, or why to install updates that to me have nothing to do with this problem.

Before I did the ping test from a functioning node I pinged my DC and another node from the problem node just fine.
No waiting at all.

The cluster has three networks. Management (host only), Live Migration and iSCSI (also a VMSwitch for certain VM's).

I have no idea where to look. Evenviewer doesn't give me anything I can work with that I can find...

I'm getting this error when trying to add a file share on a Server 2012 R2 failover cluster:

"Unable to retrieve all data needed to run the wizard. Error details: Cannot retrieve information from server. Error occurred during enumeration of SMB shares: WinRM cannot complete the operation. Verify that the specified computer name is valid, that the computer is accessible over the network, and that a firewall exception for the WinRM service is enabled and allows access from this computer. By default, the WinRM firewall exception for public profiles limits access to remote comptuers within the same local subnet."

Despite the message, I can still create the share and it seems to work, but I'm concerned there may be an issue and I'd like to resolve it before putting the service into production. TIA!

I'm setting up a simple, two node, cluster in Server 2012R2.  When doing the Validation test it states that the updates on one of my nodes is not up to date.  However, upon further investigation, I've found that most, if not all, updates the test is telling me needs to be installed are installed.  I have two other clusters that are set up the same way, the validation test came up good across the board and they have linked up nicely, but this one will not perform correctly.  The only difference between the three is the updates showing out of sync on the one cluster.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have a question on Windows Clustering.

What happen to Cluster services if AD suddenly fail. Will the Cluster services still be able to service client requests till the time it failover or the cluster services will just fail.

I have set up a very simple POC for a 2-node HyperV cluster sitting on a Dell drive array. I have created a CSV and verified that failover of the VMs works as expected.

I was thinking about CSV and how redirected IO works so I decided to compare SQLIO tests between the coordinator node (the node who owns/controls the volume) and the other node.

I found my performance numbers to be much worse on the non-coordinator node (data server)

My question is - should I expect both nodes in my cluster to have direct IO access when using a DAS/SAS array?

Hello everyone,
I have the following question: frequently on a cluster windows server 2012 Hyper-V the disks present in storage are disconnected. Sometimes thedisconnection is so long that the virtual machines are turned off. The message that I read in the logs is: "Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume1' is no longer available on this node Because Of 'STATUS_CONNECTION_DISCONNECTED (c000020c).' All I / O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished. "
The connection is made via iSCSI adapters. I checked all iscsi configurations on the servers that are part of the cluster and everything seems ok. I don't know what else to check ...

I have 2 Node Cluster with Server 2008 R2 with 13 LUNS presented as Clustered Disks within Failover Cluster Manger.

When view Hard Disk Drives within Windows Explorer 10 Drives show as Type = Clustered Disk and 3 Drives show as Type = Local Disk.  The 3 drives still failover over and seeing any ill effects, but why do they show as "Local Disk".  I wondering if there are configuration issues that could cause these 3 disks to haver failover issues.  How can I change?

I am planning the migration of our 2012 RTM cluster to 2012 R2 and will be using the Copy Cluster Roles Wizard for the move.  Do I need to delete all my existing VM snapshots before migrating?  The VM snapshots are on test machines for the most part but they are very important and part of the cluster.  We are using CSVs with our SAN so we must use the Copy Cluster Roles Wizard to migrate.

Hello,

I'm encountering a really strange problem with one of my web server Cluster.

He can't ping any of the internal network hosts : (cannot reach host).Besides, only the other web cluster can ping him.

It's not a firewall issue, cause he exactly has the same config than the first web server cluster, and this last one can ping everyone, and can be pinged by everyone.

So server A (192.168.1.4) responds to ping, can ping everyone, including server B (192.168.1.5).

Server B can't ping anyone (host unreachable), except Server A.

(the web cluster responds to the IP : 192.168.1.6)

Is it specified somewhere to what extent SCSI-3 persistent reservation commands need to be supported by a storage device to satisfy those 2012R2 cluster qualification tests:

Today we migrated from a old 2008 R2 cluster to a new 2012 R2 cluster, we are having problems with live migration of selected VMs between the 2 nodes currently in the cluster.

When we attempt this we see the following error in failover cluster manager

Live migration of 'SCVMM RC-LYNC-MON' failed.

Virtual machine migration operation for 'RC-LYNC-MON' failed at migration source 'RC-HYPERV-4'. (Virtual machine ID D3E6F2DF-A25B-459B-944D-A35979963B92)

The Virtual Machine Management Service failed to establish a connection for a Virtual Machine migration with host 'RC-HYPERV-5': General access denied error (0x80070005).

The Virtual Machine Management Service failed to establish a connection for a Virtual Machine migration because the destination host rejected the request: General access denied error (0x80070005).

the following in the is seen on the destination node:

The Virtual Machine Management Service denied a request for a Virtual Machine migration at the destination host: General access denied error (0x80070005).

The Virtual Machine Management Service blocked a connection request for a Virtual Machine migration from client address '192.168.4.6': General access denied error (0x80070005).

I've read things about permissions but am unsure what exactly I am looking at and where I should be looking.

For example, the ACL on this folder C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\RC-LYNC-MON\Virtual Machines\D3E6F2DF-A25B-459B-944D-A35979963B92 is missing RC-HYPERV-5$ as an entry.  Other VMs that are migrating fine have this entry.

All VMs reside on a CSV, but I don't want to go altering permissions in case I make the situation worse!

Can anybody suggest some things to try?

I made a dumb move and did my disk in MBR instead of GPT. Now I'm at 2.5TB but can only allocate 2TB because of the limitation.

So I have about 300GB available on a cluster disk but can't seem to figure out how to create a volume out of the unallocated space and add it to my file server cluster.

Is this possible? Here is a picture of what i'm talking about:

I have add the file server role on the cluster(server 2012). But cannot bring it online. I have the following error.

Event ID 1254, 1205, 1069

Event ID 1069

The cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'WC_FS' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

I am also having the following error Event 1196

Cluster network name resource 'SQL Network Name (DEVSer)' fail registration of on or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason:

The handle is invalid.

Ensure that the network adapters associated with dependent ip address resource are configure with at least one accessible DNS server.

But i did add the DNS ip address as my primary dns server and i also can ping the dns server.

Does anyone have face this issue, any advice?

Hi Guys,

I have a 2 node SQL cluster that is setup for both SQL and file system backups. Currently the SQL backups run over the production NIC which is something i'd like to change. On the other hand the file system backups run over the backup NICs. so my question is how do I go about adding a backup network to the cluster and creating a virtual IP for the nodes to share?

The nodes are setup with the following ip information
Node 1
NIC 1 (PROD) = 10.1.2.10
NIC 2 (HBEAT) = 172.16.2.10
NIC 3 (BKUP) 10.1.200.10

Node 2
NIC 1 (PROD) = 10.1.2.20
NIC 2 (HBEAT) = 172.16.2.20
NIC 3 (BKUP) = 10.1.200.20

The cluster name responds on 10.1.2.30 where as the SQL instance responds on 10.1.2.40.

The production nic's are setup to allow cluster use
The Heatbeat NIC's are setup for Internal use
and the backup NIC's have cluster use disabled

Ideally I'd like to be able to do the following

Backup SQL using a shared IP on the backup networks i.e. 10.1.200.40
Backup the file system of NODE 1 using IP 10.1.200.10
Backup the file system of NODE 2 using IP 10.1.200.20

Hi everyone,

We have purchased 2 Windows 2012 R2 datacenter editions and trying to setup Hyper-V cluster.

I have already installed and configured Failover Cluster as windows feature, Enabled Hyper-v on both servers and created Hyper-V cluster.

Now what I want to accomplish is few things:

1. I have total of 6 Nic's per server, so dont know how to create full fail over and HA with nics (Extremely simple in VMWare)

2. HyperV cluster keep assigning 169.254 IP automatically, and also have manually configured 192.168.1.x

3. What can I use for remote management for both hosts in one window?

4. Why all Hosts cant show shared disk, only 1 server at a time can see shared disk, other server shows as Reserved.

We are using Dell VRTX, servers and storage within 1 Chassis.
All the servers and storage is connected internally
Servers has 2 internal ports plus I got 1, 4 port nic for each server, so each server will have 6 nic ports.
What I want to see if possible like wise vmware, from every host you can see and manage shared disks
All disks are SAS, but again no external connection so I think it doesn't really matter

Right now When I try to open HyperV manager, I cant even change the default VM and disk path to shared storage, as only 1 server can see it.

NOT TO MENTION BUT VMWARE IS EXTREMELY SIMPLE AND RELIABLE

I am trying to automate some cluster maintenance work in an environment with Server 2003, Server 2003 R2, Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2 failover clusters.  Since the FailoverCluster module cmdlets in PowerShell v2 don't work with Server 2003 releases, I've tried using Cluster.EXE to do the same work.  What I have found is that Server 2008 R2 Cluster.EXE works fine with Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2, but use with Server 2003 or R2 gives the error message:

System error 1753 has occurred (0x000006d9).
There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.

If I go the other direction and try the Server 2003 Cluster.EXE utility with Server 2003 or R2, it works fine, but if I try use it with Server 2008 or R2, I get the message:

System error 1722 has occurred (0x000006ba).
The RPC server is unavailable.

Is there are any way to get one or the other utility to work with all four platforms?

I created a 3 node cluster with different san based cluster shared volumes. These were used as csv volumes. I have 8 volumes in total. Now on

two of the nodes there is a problem accessing vms located on csvvolume 7 and 6. I noticed that there is a volume named clusterstorage.000 and that the link volume 7 (6) in clusterstorage it's not working so a live migration to the nodes always fails. To solve the issue I removed the note DRM the cluster and readded it. No change ...
