Windows Server 2008 R2, 2-node cluster, SQL 2008 R2, MDSM (Modular Disk Storage Manager), MD3000 (not the "i," just the regular MD3000), 2 x Dell PowerEdge 2950s.
Here's the scenario - had to add a new logical drive, "Q:" to the cluster, for a backup area. Added just fine via MDSM and Windows was able to see it; and it added just fine via clustering, in general, BUT, whereas I can see one of the original"data drives" (dir \\cluster-alias\E$) that was created when the cluster was built, I cannot see the newly-created Q$ using the name of the custer (fyi, the drive fails over [and] back properly.
dir \\NodeA\q$
Volume in drive \\NodeA\q$ is SQLData
Volume Serial Number is 821F-BE8A
Directory of \\NodeA\q$
08/18/2011 11:29 PM <DIR> OLAP
04/18/2012 02:40 PM <DIR> SQLData
0 File(s) 0 bytes
2 Dir(s) 0
dir \\mycluster\q$
The network name cannot be found.
But, whenever either NodeA or NodeB of the cluster is active, I can do "dir \\NodeA\q$" or "dir \\NodeB\q$," specifying the active node, but not the cluster alias.
So, what am I doing wrong? Has anyone run into this before? I thought I had added everything correctly.
NOTE: A new primary node now exists in this cluster - previous primary node was removed and replaced by this new one.
Note also: The new drive was resides under the general "Available Storage" section, but that's not an issue.
ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
