Are 2 clusters necessary for a single site with less than 300 virtual machines?

Hello. I'm mainly looking for some advice with this post.

The company I now work for is running a Hyper-V environment that has 2 clusters setup at the primary site and 2 identical clusters setup at the disaster recovery site with Hyper-V replication taking place between the sites. Focusing primarily on the primary site, Cluster1 and Cluster2 have 5 physical hosts/nodes each and utilize a SAN for shared storage. The host boxes are Dell Poweredge R720's running Windows Server 2012 Datacenter. Each cluster has roughly 60 virtual machines running across the 5 hosts respectively (roughly 60 VMs for Cluster1 and 60 VMs for Cluster2). A former contractor created this cluster environment and I'm trying to figure out if this design is overkill.

I suppose it's possible that the contractor was worried about the 16 node limit for Server 2008 R2 clustering at the time. Is there any good reasons to stick with this two cluster setup or should we look into consolidating the clusters at each site? Thanks.
