Cannot Create Virtual 2k8 R2 Cluster in HV2012

Hello,

I've run into an issue in creating a virtual cluster. Te intended purpose is for a DAG, however, even without exchange in the picture, i cannot form a cluster with more than one node. Here is the scenario

Virtual Host Environment is :
2 Node Hyper-V 2012 cluster. 6 nics on each node.

Nic 1 - Management
Nic 2 - Spare
Nic 3 - VM Network Teamed via Windows NIC Teaming
Nic 4 - iSCSI
Nic 5 - VM Network Teamed with Nic 2 via Windows Nic Teaming
Nic 6 - iSCSI

each node is attached to 2 different sans, but that's not important.

I have other vm's that work fine on this cluster.

I added 3 new windows 2008 r2 enterprise vm's, installed from scratch, to avoid any possibility of a base image duplication issue.

all three vm's are on VLAN 501.

VM 1 = AD1, domain controller, 10.5.1.10
VM 2 = Test1, 10.5.1.102
VM 3 = Test2, 10.5.1.104

VM 2 and 3, have an additional vNic connected to VLAN 502, and are set to ips 10.5.2.102 and 104 respectively.

Now, VM1, and VM2 are on Node 1 of the hv2012 cluster. VM3 is on Node 2 of the hv2012 cluster.

When creating a cluster from VM2, with a single node (itself), the cluster forms fine, no errors. When you try to add VM3, it stalls for about 2 minutes, evicts vm3 and says it cant do it - access denied. Nothing in the event logs to report.

If i destroy the cluster, and try it from the other node, VM3, i get the same result when trying to add VM2. There is no latency issue between the interfaces, pings runs fine with <1ms. Connectivity between the machines appears to be fine as well.

If i move VM2 and VM3 onto the *same* Hv2012 cluster node, the cluster forms fine, no problems what so ever.

Any thoughts? is this a bug? am i missing something ? Latest updates or not, i get the same issue. i tried with 3 or 4 different installs.

For the moment, i'm continuing my research with both virtual cluster nodes running on the same physical nodes, but in production that would not be ideal, and defeats the purpose of the virtual cluster.

One more thing, after the cluster is formed on the same node - if i move the virtual node from one physical node to another, one of the nodes does get marked as down and cannot rejoin until they are paired up on the same physical node (any node).

Is this a problem with the Nic teaming on win2012?

Thanks in advance

Jaysam Thanki
