Hello Everyone,

Getting the below event on SQL Cluster nodes.

ERR 2051 : Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering

[RCM] [GIM] ResType Virtual Machine has no resources, not collecting local utilization info

ERR 2050 : Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering

[RCM] ResourceTypeChaseTheOwnerLoop::DoCall: ResType MSMQTriggers's DLL is not present on this node.  Attempting to find a good node...

I referred to the below link here it says safe to ignore or install MSMQ.

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/clustering/2013/04/05/msmq-errors-in-the-cluster-log/

Thank you so much in advance.

Convert existing disk to CSV

I have a Dell MD3000i disk array holding my existing HyperV Guests. I want to start using CSV's to allow clustering and live migration of mission critical VMs.

Can I convert the existing disk to CSV without losing the VHDs ?

I understand that I will need to export the VMs and import them into the Clustering tool, but I am worried that converting the disk to CSV will destroy the data.

Any thoughts ?

Phil

An error pccurred while creating the cluster. Could not determine Management point Network Type -- The procedure number is out of range

I am receiving the error in the subject when i try to create a cluster. The two nodes of the cluster are WS2016 Core.

The Validation Wizard doesn't show any Error or Warning.
The two servers are set-up to prefer IPv4 over IPv6 as this has been pointed out in some other posts as a possible cause of the type of error that i am  getting.

Thanks in advance for your help, and your suggestions!

Changing the witness is disabled

I have a SQL Server Cluster Availability Group, and the cluster is configured to use a file witness.

recently I expand the cluster to my DR site and I get a subscription from Azure to host the witnesssite

I want to change the cluster witness from a local file witness to use the cloud witness, but the problem is the option is disabled.

How can I change the Witness, and why its disabled.

Lab Environment: The cluster does not start even if one of the node is up

I have a lab environment with the following setup:

Host: WS 2016 with hyper V installed.

2 VM's (WS2016) clustered running Fileshare with no witness (It is a lab environment just for testing purposes).

ISCSI disk has been created on a third VM which is being used as Fileshare.

CASE:1

Cluster running with both the nodes up. Current owner of the Role: say SERVER1.

I shutdown the server and the new owner of the role is SERVER2. CLUSTER IS STILL UP AND RUNNING.

CASE:2

With the current role owner being SERVER2 and SERVER1 being currently shut down. If I shutdown SERVER2 now, the cluster is going to stop (very obvious).

Upon starting SERVER1 again, the cluster is not up. SERVER1 shows the ISCSI disk to be offline. Tried manually starting the cluster but still it does not start (I could not check the votes as I could not access the cluster node option in Failover cluster manager, as the cluster is Stopped). Cluster events does not show any data.

CASE:3

Upon starting SERVER2, the cluster starts automatically and the Owner Node is SERVER2.

Questions:

1) Why the cluster does not start in case:2 ? Is it because of the voting ? How do I troubleshoot ?

2) Is this a normal behaviour ? How do I override it ?

3) What are your advise for the best practices when working with WSFC ?

Windows 2012 R2 - Fileserver cluster file indexing

Hi

Is it possible to setup file indexing/windows search on a Windows 2012 R2 fileserver cluster? Is it cluster aware?

I have read some old posts that indexing is not cluster aware. Not sure if that is relevant still.

This doc descripbes a way, but this is also old ...

Anyone that knows or have done it successfully?

Connecting to Failover cluster Access denied

I use a domain user which has local administrators right in the computer, however when connect to the failover cluster got the above error.

after giving the domain user "Domain Admin", the user can connect to cluster successfully.

If I don't want to give Domain Admin to the user, what else permission is should grant to this user so that it can access the cluster ?

it is using windows 2016

MS 2012 R2, MS failover cluster issue while creating a MSMQ role

Cluster resource 'dc1bsimsmq' of type 'Network Name' in clustered role 'dc1bsimsmq' failed.

Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

Cluster network name resource 'dc1bsimsmq' failed to create its associated computer object in domain 'gst.gov.in' during: Resource online.

The text for the associated error code is: Access is denied.

Please work with your domain administrator to ensure that:
- The cluster identity 'DC1BSIAPP$' has Create Computer Objects permissions. By default all computer objects are created in the same container as the cluster identity 'DC1BSIAPP$'.
- The quota for computer objects has not been reached.
- If there is an existing computer object, verify the Cluster Identity 'DC1BSIAPP$' has 'Full Control' permission to that computer object using the Active Directory Users and Computers tool.

Windows NLB - Cluster IP:PORT is not accessible from converged node

$

Hi All,

I would like to ask you whether any one know or can confirm that the following behaviour is right according to the NLB architecture:

I have deployed Windows NLB Cluster with two nodes. The Windows NLB is configured as a multicast cluster and the cluster IP:PORT is fully accessible from same VLAN and also from other VLANs, however problem is that from the node which is currently converged, ie. the cluster ip:port is not active on the server/node, the cluster ip:port is not accessible at all - when I try to run telnet on cluster IP:PORT, connection is immediately refused.

Is this known limitation/function of NLB cluster or something is wrong?

Really appreciate your answers or help

My cluster has a network name with 2 ipaddress.

by default RegisterAllProvidersIP is 1 when cluster is setup.

But I only see 1 ip address in my dns records?

I am not sure it's security problem or not?

or network problem.

the 2nd IP address has to be access to DNS ?

Thoughts on best practices for clustering a file server with Hyper-V

$

We have a new Hyper-V failover cluster with severals VMs. We have a Server 2012 R2 file server failover cluster that we want to transition over to Hyper-V. Our new SAN storage is connected via 10Gb iSCSI, and is where all of the VMs and file server storage will reside. My question is which way is better/makes more sense?

1. Set up two failover cluster nodes as VMs in Hyper-V. Use physical disk connection or cluster shared storage? Is this adding unnecessary complication with the additional machines and layers?

2. Add the file server as another clustered resource on the Hyper-V cluster. Use cluster disk or cluster shared storage? Is this a security risk, having this clustered on the same failover cluster as all of the Hyper-V machines?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/best practices for this.

Windows Server Failover Cluster Fails

$

Dears,

We have a Windows Server 2012 Cluster built of two nodes (node 01, node 02).

The cluster is being used for SAP with Sybase Database engine.

We are experiencing an issue that happens from time to time.

Whenever Node 01 hangs, all the system hangs, and Node 02 never restore the service and be active.

In normal situations if Node 01 is totally down, Node 02 takes  responsibility, but if it hangs it keeps all the storage partitions reserved for it and never release them until I force restart it.

What do I do?

Regards,

Khalid.

Migrating HyperV 2012 R2 Cluster to a new domain

Hello everyone,

I need to join a 3 nodes HyperV 2012 R2 cluster to a new domain. I have searched doc in the MS knowledge base but I didn't find anything. I would like to understand if there's a way to join the cluster to a new (trusted) AD domain without destroying and recreating the cluster. Apparently, there's no official MS article on that

Hal

Event 1070 FailoverClustering error code 1629

$

Hello,

I built a cluster and trying to add a second node.  Both servers are on two different subnets, they reached each other properly.

When I try to add the second server as a node, it times out, and in Windows logs, there is an event 1070 which shows "The node failed to join failover cluster 'DAG-Tech' due to error code '1629'."

There is another event 7024, with this description "

The Cluster Service service terminated with the following service-specific error:
Data supplied is of wrong type."

The "Data of wrong type" corresponds to the meaning of the error code 1629.

How to resolve?  What data is wrong?

Thanks, Dominic

Cannot move Role across sites - Element not found on Log disk

$

Greetings.

I am having an issue moving a WSFC Role from Site1 to Site2 or vice versa.

My configuration:

  • Windows Server 2016
  • WSFC, Stretch Cluster
  • 4 nodes Site1, 4 nodes Site2
  • File Services Roles
  • Storage Replica
  • Nimble CS7000 hybrid storage, iSCSI connected

I have two Roles currently created and running successfully. I CAN move the Roles between nodes at the SAME site without issue, however, when I try to move a Role to the opposite site, the disk configured as the LOG for that Storage Replica will briefly show "Element not Found." Error Code: 0x80070490

Has anyone run across this? I'm running a very similar set up in a Dev environment, and the difference is that the iSCSI SAN volumes are backed by a Nimble CS500 instead of the CS7000, not sure if/how that would make a difference, but it seems that it is a possible explanation.

Any thoughts or ideas are welcomed.
